Visakhapatnam: District Collector Pravin Kumar visited rural tahsil office where the land documents were allegedly tampered, on Wednesday and asked the officials to get all the documents ready for SIT which would pay a visit soon to investigate the tempering of land documents.

He checked all the rooms in which the documents were stored.Later, talking to the reporters, the Collector said the government has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of senior IPS officer Vineet Brijlal to check the tampering of the records.

He said he conducted a survey personally in Madhurawada, Rushikonda, Pardesipalem and Bakkannapalem and found that the records were tampered.“Those involved in the tampering will be punished,’’ he warned. The SIT will submit the report within two months.

Regarding distribution of pattas, the Collector said the second phase would be taken up within 10 days. In the first phase, 30,000 pattas were distributed and as per the GO No. 296 another 20,000 pattas would be given, he added.
