Chittoor: More than 2,000 government teachers under the leadership of MLC Y Srinivasulu Reddy tried to lay siege the DEO office here on Wednesday, demanding the state government to fulful their long pending demands. Addressing the agitating teachers, Srinivasulu Reddy alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu gave irrelevant orders with regard to promotions and transfers of teachers.
The MLC accused the government of following anti-teacher policies. He stated that the government teachers will teach a befitting lesson to the TDP government in the next elections. The MLC found fault with the government’s decision to close schools under the garb of rationalisation.
“The government indirectly supporting the corporate schools,” he added. He stated that the standards in government schools are quite impressive compared to corporate educational institutions. The police have made serious efforts to disperse the agitating teachers. As the agitators have refused to quit the lay siege agitation, the police arrested MLC and the leaders of various teachers unions and later left them on personal surety.
Speaking to The Hans India, Srinivasulu Reddy said that he would raise the issues of teachers in the Legislative Council. He said that the unity of the teachers is the need of the hour to exert pressure on the government. The MLC said that he would meet the Education Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and others to fulfil the demands of the teachers.
Teachers stage protest
Nellore: MLC V Balasubrahmanyam warned that teachers would intensify stir if the state government fails to resolve their long-pending issues. The MLC and teachers staged a protest in front of the office of the District Educational Officer (DEO) at Dargamitta here on Wednesday. FAPTO and JACTO have jointly organised the protest. Prior to the protest, teachers organised a huge rally from VR Circle to the DEO’s office.
They sat in front of the DEO office and raised slogans against the government, demanding to protect government-run educational institutions from closure. Speaking on the occasion, the MLC alleged that government has been trying to dilute the government education system. “Government has been imposing various systems for the teachers such as performance appraisal, web counselling and rationalisation process,” the MLC said.
He stated that government has to complete regular transfers during every summer. He also alleged that the government had willfully extended the deadline for transfers of the teachers to obstruct admissions in government schools. FAPTO district convener N V Ramanaiah demanded that the government should abolish web counseling and performance points to teachers during transfers.
The government had accepted its failure by closing the DEO’s office at the time of protest, he added. FAPTO leader warned to intensify the stir if the government fails to abolish performance points and web counselling.
