Kakinada: East Godavari Collector Kartikeya Mishra called upon the people to participation in sapling plantation drive under Vanam-Manam programme for environmental protection.
Flagging off the rally jointly organised by the department of forests and Kakinada Municipal Corporation at II Town police station junction here on Sunday, the Collector said that such rallies are necessary to create awareness among the public over the need for plantation of saplings and growing of trees.
Participating in the programme, city MLA V Venkateswara Rao stressed the need for plantation of saplings. The rally continued up to Jagannaickpur Bridge from II Town police station. Students, who participated in the rally, displayed placards explaining the need to protect environment.
