Vijayawada: Upset with the failure of love affair, a teenager committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling at her residence in Kolavennu near here on Saturday. However, the issue came to light only on Sunday after her mother lodged a complaint with the police over the death of her daughter.
This is the second such incident wherein a schoolgirl ended her life in a little span of three days. On July 12, Karri Sowmya, a Class IX girl resorted to the extreme step of hanging after she was harassed by a youth, Nani, on the way to school.
Even as the tragedy of Sowmya hardly subsided, another girl Gurujada Srivallika (15) ended her life. According to Kankipadu police, the girl, Srivallika, was studying in Class X at the Zilla Parishad School at Kolavennu.
Her mother Veeramma was a labourer and she was lone breadwinner of the family. A single parent, she was taking care of Srivallika and son. Srivallika was allegedly in love with a 19-year-old Movva Yashwant, her neighbour. During a petty quarrel between them on Saturday, he had slapped her.
Unable to cope with the insult and in a fit of anger she hanged. Her mother found her hanging after coming from work. Police registered a case based on the complaint lodged by the girl’s mother. The body was shifted to GGH for post-mortem. The Kankipadu police are investigating.
