Visakhapatnam: Revenue officials led by Visakhapatnam rural tahsildar K Bhaskar Reddy seized 2.20 acres of government land in Madhuravada which was under illegal occupation of one Pothina Venkatraramana,on Friday.

Official sources said Venkataramana gave this particular extent of land to V Pratap Raju on lease. Presently, a contractor with the government made it a storage point for saplings which were to be planted in all the three north coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.

After seizing the land, the revenue staff fixed bill boards indicating that the land belonged to the government. It is not known whether any case has been filed against Venkataramana.

``We will seize all the government lands if they are vacant and after verification of the documents,’’ said joint collector G Srijana. She also said the Special Investigation Team will be needing more time to complete the investigation and submit a report to the government. The team began its inquiry on June 28. As per the schedule, the report was to be submitted on August 20.
