Srikakulam: Students of Aditya Institute of Technology and Management (AITAM) at Tekkali will conduct a study on Uddanam kidney diseases. Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body, working under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of Government of India,

sanctioned the project to AITAM for conducting a study and to provide safe drinking water project in Kaviti mandal in Uddanam area. Students of electrical and electronics and civil branches will conduct the study in the villages where kidney disease patients’ percentage is high, particularly in Kaviti mandal.


As part of the project, the SERB sanctioned Rs 35 lakh for study and provide 6 KW smart water purifier in the villages where groundwater was polluted in Kaviti mandal. Students would collect information on toxins, genetic disorders and contamination of under groundwater resources.

The proposed project will cover on identifying the organic and inorganic ions dissolved in groundwater which are harmful to kidney patients with latest sensors. In second phase, an integrated 6 KW solar power plant with advanced purification system to supply safe drinking water to affected areas would be installed.
