Visakhapatnam: AIIMS-like Institute for Indian medicine system would be opened in Delhi soon and also there's a need to set up international-level hospitals for AYUSH in India, said Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik, who inaugurated a four-day National Aarogya Fair at Andhra University Exhibition Grounds here on Friday.
In a bid to bolster and promote indigenous and alternative forms of medicines of the country, the Aarogya Fair focused on propagating Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) is being organised jointly by the Central and State governments as well as New Delhi-based PHD Chambers of Commerce from September 8 – 11.
Speaking on the occasion, Shripad Yesso Naik said AYUSH Ministry has been striving hard to make the public across the country aware of the advantages of indigenous medical treatment, which is a low-costly affair when compared to allopathy.
He recalled that after NDA coming to power department of AYUSH was made into a ministry with an aim to strengthen the alternative forms of medicinal fields.
In all, 70 stalls were set up to sell the medicinal products besides reaching out to the visitors of the fair. Also, in some outlets free health check-up camps across the country for the public were being conducted. There will be lectures and sessions for the public on health issues by the experts. The fair will be opened for the general public to avail the services for free, including health check-up/OPDs, distribution of selected AYUSH medicines and display of medicinal plants.
Vizag MP K Haribabu opined that the public should try AYUSH as the allopathy has become costly. He expressed happiness over the National Aarogya Fair being held in Visakhapatnam.
Later, AP Health Principal Secretary Poonam Malakondaiah urged the Central government to give more importance to research in AYUSH for taking it to the other parts of the world. She said that the department was working to set up AYUSH outlet in every Primary Health Centre in the state.
