They vowed to continue strike till their demand is met. SV Medical College Junior Doctors Association president Dr Venkataramana said that the Director of Medical Education (DME) has clarified that they are not concerned with it as it is purely local problem. The agitating junior doctors alleged that even after formal strike notice was given to the Superintendent he has not made any alternative arrangements. Also, he did not try to pacify the doctors. A total of 137 interns have not attended duties on Saturday.
On the other hand, PG doctors are also planning to go on strike from Wednesday as they too were not getting stipend for the last three months. The revised hike in stipend to them was also not implemented. Their association leaders are going to have talks with the government in Secretariat on Monday on this issue along with the objectionable GOs 149 and 150.
If the government’s attitude is not positive then they will proceed with their strike, said Dr Venkataramana. Other leaders Dr P S Vishnu Bharadwaj, Dr K Bhanu Prakash and Dr M Keerthi Priya also participated in the agitation.
Superintendent Dr Sidda Naik asked the junior doctors to call off strike and attend duties. Their stipend will be credited in two days, he assured. But, the agitating doctors did not agree to that saying that they were receiving the same answer for all these days. Meanwhile, former MP Dr Chinta Mohan extended his solidarity to the striking junior doctors.
He visited Ruia Hospital on Saturday and spoke to them. He also discussed with the Ruia Hospital Superintendent Dr Sidda Naik. He demanded the government should release the stipend dues of Rs 11 lakh within four days. If junior doctors go on strike, the effect will be severe on poor patients, he warned.
