Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths unearthed illegal assets worth Rs 10 crore from an inspector of weights and measures department. They conducted simultaneous raids at his residence in Kurnool and his properties in Hyderabad and Vijayawada on Monday.

Kurnool: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths unearthed illegal assets worth Rs 10 crore from an inspector of weights and measures department. They conducted simultaneous raids at his residence in Kurnool and his properties in Hyderabad and Vijayawada on Monday.

ACB DSP V Jayaram Raju said that Narayana Swami, who is inspector of weights and measures, has almost set up a mini empire at Hyderabad. Swami who joined as inspector in the department in 1996 was promoted to district inspector in the same department and placed at Kurnool. He owned assets disproportionate to his income.

“So far, we have unearthed two G +4 buildings at Yerragadda in Hyderabad, 5 house sites at various places of greater Hyderabad, one flat in Vijayawada, Rs 50 lakh worth bonds, 100 grams of gold, 200 grams of silver ornaments and Rs 18,000 cash besides a Volkswagen car and a motor cycle.

Raju said that final figure of amassed illegal assets would be known later, raids have been going on at Swami’s relative’s houses. “His bank accounts and lockers are yet to open. Full information would be known after a thorough investigation,” he stated and added that the tainted official would be produced in the court.

It should be recalled that the ACB laid a trap for Swami on August 15 and caught him red-handed, while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a person at Gospadu in Nandyal.
