Gollaprolu: Members of the Gollaprolu Arya Vysya Sangham on Wednesday took out a rally in the town on Wednesday to stage their protest against Kancha Ilaiah whose criticism in his controversial book ‘Samajika Smugglerlu Komatollu’ left the trading community simmering with anger.

The traders downed shutters voluntarily and took out a rally through the streets of the town and protested against Ilaiah and his remarks against them at the office of the MRO and submitted memoranda highlighting their demands to deputy tahsildar, sub-inspector and MLA NVSN Verma.

They demanded immediate arrest of Ilaiah for provoking people on caste lines and banning the book. It was not fair for Ilaiah to force the Vysyas, who hitherto have been leading a peaceful life, to take to the streets.

Leaders Kusumanchi Papa Rao, Kedarasetty Nanaji, Dangeti Ramakrishna, Grandhi Janakibabu, Gollapudi Bhaskara Rao, Kotta Ganesh, Darsipudi Veera Raghavulu, Grandhi Lachchanna and others took part in the rally.

Verma told the Arya Vysya community leaders who had called on him that the TDP government has been contemplating blacklisting the book. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had directed the DGP to take stern action against those who foment communal trouble.

The MLA hinted at establishing an exclusive corporation for the socially and economically backward Arya Vysyas. He said that the financial position of some of the Arya Vysyas was much inferior to that of NREGS workers. Precautions to prevent publication of books criticising castes and religion would be adopted in future, he said.

Gollaprolu municipal chairman Seeram Manikyam, AMC Chairman Vineel Verma and others took part in the programme.
