Nallagatla villagers stage road blockade, seeks over bridge

Kurnool: Tense situation prevailed at Nallagatla village on the Kurnool-Kadapa National Highway as 40 villagers belonging to Nallagatla village staged a road blockade with tractors demanding an over bridge to contain the road accidents.

As a result, traffic on the National Highway came to standstill. On learning about the incident, the Allagadda Taluka Police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the villagers, who were adamant with their demand. Sub-inspector M Ramaiah immediately called on the officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Krishna Mohan Construction (KMC) to resolve the villagers demand.

Upon the assurance of KMC official Bala Ram that he will sort out the problem within a span of 4 months, the villagers called off their agitation.

SI M Ramaiah said several accidents are taking place on the National Highway, particularly at Nallagatla village. It may be mentioned here around 3 persons have lost their lives on Friday. Earlier also three to four persons lost their lives while crossing the road and several others sustained injuries, he stated.

The SI said that the accidents are taking place for not having service roads to go into the villages. Even there are no indication boards on highway to alert the vehicle drivers to slow their vehicles, he added.
