TDP MLA stages fast over pathetic bus stand
The ruling TDP MLA B C Janardhan Reddy was reportedly left with no option but to launch a relay fast to draw the attention of the ‘thick-skinned’ management of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) on the poor condition of its bus station at Kovelakuntla in Kurnool district.
Kurnool: The ruling TDP MLA B C Janardhan Reddy was reportedly left with no option but to launch a relay fast to draw the attention of the ‘thick-skinned’ management of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) on the poor condition of its bus station at Kovelakuntla in Kurnool district. Reddy represents Banaganapalli Assembly constituency under which Kovelakuntla falls. Locals and students joined hands with him to highlight the issue.
If it rains, no one ventures into the bus stand as it turns into a huge pool of rainwater. Passengers have to literally wade through the knee-deep waters to catch their bus. It’s a pathetic scene that has been continuing in the bus stand at Kovelakuntra for several years, reflecting apathy on the part of the RTC authorities. Petitions and pleas from passengers allegedly failed to move the RTC top brass. Feeling the heat of public displeasure, the MLA resorted to a demonstration and his association with the ruling party did not come in his way in defending the public cause.
Addressing the protesters, Janardhan Reddy said he was fed up with the utter disregard of the RTC management in improving passenger amenities. He said his representations to the RTC top brass too did not work in changing the face of the bus stand. The drains connecting the bus stand get choked, making it difficult for the rain waters to find an outlet. In addition, the bus bays are located in a low-lying area, requiring to be filled with gravel.
APRTC Executive Director, P Rama Rao, based in Kadapa, rushed to Kovelakuntla in a bid to pacify the agitating MLA. The ED promised to improve the conditions in the bus stand in a period of two months.
