Vijayawada: Joint Commissioner of Police BV Ramana Kumar cautioned the people not to disclose the details of bank accounts and passwords to unknown persons. Ramana Kumar participated in the awareness meeting on ‘Cybercrimes’ at the zonal office here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Joint Commissioner said cybercrimes are gradually increasing in the city after demonetisation of high value notes last year.

He said some brokers are cheating the gullible bank account holders by assuring to arrange bank loans. He asked the people not to disclose One Time Passwords to unknown persons if they receive phone calls. He informed so far 180 cybercrime cases related to money were registered under the commissionerate limits this year and efforts were on to detect the culprits and recover the money.

He appealed the bank customers to immediately inform the police if they are cheated. He said the culprits robbed Rs 80 lakh from gullible people in the city and so far Rs 42 lakh has been recovered and efforts were on to recover the remaining money.
