Divisional Forest Officer (social forestry) Srinivasulu said that they have set a target of planting trees in 2.1 lakh hectares across the district. He stated that district has 31 per cent forestry.
Tirupati: Divisional Forest Officer (social forestry) Srinivasulu said that they have set a target of planting trees in 2.1 lakh hectares across the district. He stated that district has 31 per cent forestry.
The DFO participated as chief guest for Vana Samaradhana programme held for school students at Sri Venkateswara (SV) Zoo park here on Saturday. Addressing the students, Srinivasulu said it is the responsibility of every person to protect the environment. He stated that society will benefit by planting trees. The DFO advised students to know the value of tree plantation and should be aware of tree protection from school-level.
He exhorted students to create awareness about environmental protection among people. He mentioned that the Social Forestry division in the Forest department is distributing tree saplings free of cost to public for domestic purpose. Srinivasulu said that awareness camps are being conducted at several places in the district on tree plantation and protection for the last one year. The competitions like essay writing, painting, quiz and poster making are being conducted to students in awareness camps, the DFO stated.
“We can live without pollution when large number of trees are located in our surroundings,” Additional SP Swamy said and added that rainy season is suitable for planting trees.
The ASP called upon the students to plant trees on their birthdays. Afterwards, officials have distributed the prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted by the Social Forestry wing. On the occasion, officials of the Social Forestry wing have distributed fruit tree saplings to students free of cost. Students from Nehru Municipal High School and BC Social Welfare hostels have attended the programme. Range Officer Venkatasubbaiah, Deputy Range Officer Balakrishna Reddy and volunteers from NGOs were present.
