Shuttlers D Pooja and T Hema Nagendra Babu clinched an exciting decider match as Vizianagaram Steel Giants scored a 3-2 win over Synergies Visakhapatnam Smashers at the inaugural match of GV Bharath Andhra Badminton League-2018 here at the Swarnabharathi Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
Visakhapatnam: Shuttlers D Pooja and T Hema Nagendra Babu clinched an exciting decider match as Vizianagaram Steel Giants scored a 3-2 win over Synergies Visakhapatnam Smashers at the inaugural match of GV Bharath Andhra Badminton League-2018 here at the Swarnabharathi Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
In the mixed doubles, D Pooja and T Hema Nagendra Babu beat M Tanishq and D Chandra Kumar of Synergies Visakhapatnam Smashers by 15-12 and 15-11 to seal the issue in favour of Vizianagaram.
The day began with men’s singles match and in which Vizianagaram secured one point with B Kiran Kumar defeated R Aneeth Kumar of Visakhapatnam by 15-10 and 15-9 win over. Vizag’s shuttler M Tanishq levelled the score 1-1 by registering an easy win over P Nishita Varma of Vizianagaram by 15-6 and 15-12 in the women’s singles match.
In the men’s doubles match, Vizag’s shuttlers D Chandra Kumar and K Sai Pavan had registered a thrilling victory by scoring 15-11, 9-15 and 15-9 over Vizianagaram’s pair B Kiran Kumar and T Hema Nagendra Babu.
Vizianagaram shuttler R Sanjeeva Rao appeared determined and gained an upper hand and beat his rival by 15-8 and 15-7 and levelled the scores 2-2 and made the mixed doubles match is a thrilling for spectators. The last match of the day-the decider match for both teams- was mixed doubles, in which Vizianagaram beat Vizag 15-12 and 15-11.
Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust MT Krishna Babu inaugurated the event. Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Babu said that after Kabbadi, shuttle badminton is getting huge response. The league event would encourage the youth to take badminton as profession, he added. Commissioner of GVMC M Hari Narayanan also present and introduced the players.
