Bhimavaram: CPM politburo member Prakash Karat said that only a dialogue between India and Pakistan will ease the prevailing tension between the two neighbours.
Addressing the media in Bhimavaram on Sunday, the senior CPM leader questioned why the Modi government was not showing interest on holding talks with Pakistan to ease the tension. Due to Modi government’s failure at the Centre, the terror attacks have gone up, he added by quoting the recent attacks on the army camps at Pathankot and Jammu and Kashmir.
He flayed the NDA government for boasting about surgical strikes carried out across the line of control against terror launching pads. “At that time we have expressed doubt that it is a defective strategy. There is a ceasefire there from 2007. For several years, peace has prevailed in LoC. Over the last two years, violation of ceasefire became a daily occurrence.
People living on the border areas in Jammu Kashmir have to be shifted from those areas. Normal life has been disturbed and tens of thousands of people suffered a lot,” Karat pointed out. Karat opined that peace can be restored in Jammu and Kashmir only if the Centre took an initiative to hold talks with Pakistan.
He said, “The Centre may counter Pakistan’s terror activity. But it should also conduct talks without which we cannot solve any problem.” The CPM leader alleged that the Modi’s government had no commitment or sincerity to solve the problems of the people in the country. He said there was ambiguity on several issues mentioned by the Centre in the Union Budget.
Karat flayed the ruling TDP in the State for remaining silent on the Special Category Status issue during the last four years. He said the TDP which is an ally of BJP at the Centre, is also responsible for the NDA government’s neglect towards Andhra Pradesh.
Replying to a question, Prakash Karat ruled out any differences with party’s General Secretary Sitaram Yechuri over forging an alliance with the Congress Party. He said the Central committee of the CPI will decide on such issues.
Political decisions are likely to be made at the all India conference scheduled to be held in April, Karat said. He pointed out that the main aim is to unseat the BJP from power at the Centre. Karat exuded confidence that the CPM will retain power in Tripura.
