Nellore: Flamboyant advertisements of many products of hand wash solutions entice the parents who normally want their kids to be clean and healthy. Teachers in the schools also suggest such cleanliness with neat dress code.

  • Cases of asthma and other diseases are on the rise in the district
  • Chandranna Sanchara Chikitsa Kendra vehicles collect data of some asthma cases in Nellore, Kovur, Indukurpet and Chejarla mandals in the district

But, this over publicity for maintaining hygiene is finally turning out to be a curse for many kids who were falling prey to diseases. They suffer due to low immunity levels. They become weak to resist bacterial infections.

Normally, school teachers and parents insist children for hygiene for protecting themselves from any contagious diseases and infections and teach them to be clean. Taking advantage of the situation, some companies have started supporting the schools with some infrastructure and also material, providing solutions at free of cost.

“The main culprit is Hygiene Hypothesis, which is creating all these difficulties where kids lack exposure to infectious agents, micro-organisms, and parasites that suppress natural development of the immune system. In Nellore, asthma cases are on the rise where the kids fail to fight against the antibodies,” said Dr SS Prasad.

Data in cold countries also indicate that asthma increased by 75 per cent even in thickly populated urban areas. Now, the disease is spreading in rural areas of Nellore, Kovur, Indukurpet and Chejarla mandals when staff members of Chandranna Sanchara Chikitsa (CSC) vehicles collected data in these areas.

“The asthma cases are found in these mandals when the vehicles collected data during Janmabhoomi as part of village health profiles. It indicated rising trend of asthma in these areas. We are collecting full data in the coming one or two months by deploying health staff. We are asking the local Medical Officers to focus on chronic diseases like Pediatric Asthma in the areas and the reasons behind,” said Dr C Varasundaram, District Medical and Health Officer. He admitted that they were not having concrete data of number of reported cases till now.

“The schools were being provided sample bottles of the liquid for their use after toilet. Though this is good they cannot buy outside after it finished,” said a senior official from a Non-Government Organisation. The company disappears soon after its target completes,’’ he added.
