Vizianagaram: After a boat capsized at Devipatnam in East Godavari district recently, the government has taken strict measures in tourist places where the boats are being operated. As a result, the boat ride facility was cancelled in Tatipudi Reservoir in the district.

Lapses in sanctioning of licences and fitness certificates to boats came to the fore after the death of 15 passengers in the mishap that occurred in the River Godavari recently.

Actually, many tourists from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and other places visit Tatipudi, which is a wonderful tourist spot and enjoy boat ride in the reservoir of Gosthani. Even the schoolchildren used to enjoy their summer holidays with their friends and relatives here.

But the state government imposed a ban on boat rides here, Now, around seven boats, including two speed boats, were anchored on the banks of the reservoir. The government stated that no boat can sail unless they get permission from the department concerned.

K Narayana, a boat operator here, said “We are not going for boat rides for the past four days and I lost my income. No tourists are coming here for boat riding”. Even the ice cream parlours, and snacks stalls,too, were closed.

P Ramya, an Intermediate student, from Visakhapatnam, stated” “We came here to enjoy the boat ride but the boats rides were cancelled. I am totally disappointed with this”.

Superintendent of Police G Palaraju said: “We instructed the boat operators to seek permission from the water resource department prior to boat riding. These norms should not be violated”.
