The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) drafted a mega health preparedness programme to check the deadly seasonal fevers in the rainy season. In order to ensure dengue and malaria-free city, the GVMC geared up with dual action plan ‘prevention’ and ‘treatment’ and deployed men and machinery to the special operation.

Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) drafted a mega health preparedness programme to check the deadly seasonal fevers in the rainy season. In order to ensure dengue and malaria-free city, the GVMC geared up with dual action plan ‘prevention’ and ‘treatment’ and deployed men and machinery to the special operation.
The GVMC identified 26 dengue high-risk areas in the city and one special officer was deployed at each location to implement the action plan. As a part of the programme, the GVMC deployed 300 special malaria workers for the mission.
The sanitation and public health workers will take up door to door survey to check the dengue larvae. All the sanitation workers have been directed to check drainages and other water bodies to kill the dengue larvae.
In the present season already dengue cases have been reporting at various areas in the city. As many as 983 dengue cases were reported in 2017.
“As many as four heavy fogging machines, 50 hand fogging machines and 20 power sprayers are being used to check the mosquitoes at the identified high-risk areas. As many as 26 teams were deployed to create awareness on dengue fever at all high-risk zones.
At all the high schools', awareness programme will be conducted through videos. One special officer was deployed at each high-risk zone to supervise the action plan,” Commissioner of GVMC M Hari Narayanan said.
Not only prevention activities, but also the GVMC gearing up to provide special medical aid to the dengue and malaria patients. The Commissioner directed the officials to make it available the medicines and dengue kits at each Chief Minister Health Centres and PHCs.
