Rural Electric Cooperative Society embroiled in recruitment scam
After the financial fraud which came to the fore in Rural Electric Cooperative Society (RECS) at Cheepurupalli in Vizianagaram district, now another scam has surfaced.
Cheepurupalli (Vizianagaram): After the financial fraud which came to the fore in Rural Electric Cooperative Society (RECS) at Cheepurupalli in Vizianagaram district, now another scam has surfaced.
Recently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had conducted investigation and found that Rs 1.7 crore worth funds were not credited into the account of the firms and they were diverted into the Andhra Bank cashier’s personal account. Later, the CBI questioned the higher officials of Andhra Bank and Board Members of RECS too. Finally, the bank agreed to refund the amount to the RECS soon.
Now, another scam came to light in the RECS. The RECS has been serving 56,000 electricity customers in Gurla, Merakamudida, Cheepurupalli and Garividi mandals. Generally, it purchases power from the GENCOs at a lesser price and sells it to the customers at a higher price. It is being run under the Cooperative Act and the functioning like a cooperative society.
The annual turnover of the society is Rs 18 lakh. The firm has recently decided to recruit 14 members through outsourcing. Sub-engineers, senior assistants and computer operators have to be recruited. However, the management has violated the norms and didn’t implement any roaster points and reservation. The management had filled up the vacancies with the relatives and kin of the local leaders and dumped the norms, rules and regulation.
Later, this news went viral and a huge number of applicants had approached the higher officials. After an inquiry, the government came to know that the posts were filled up violating the norms and by not following the rule of reservation. Moreover, bribes were also collected from candidates during recruitment.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, P Ramesh, Managing Director of RECS, said: “Yes, we came to know that the norms were violated and the recruitment was stalled as of now. We will call for applications again from the applicants and fill up the posts with the qualified candidates. This time, we will take all precautions and won’t give chance for allegations”.”
