Vijayawada: The government is keen to complete various ongoing development works in the city before the ensuing elections. The works like Durga temple flyover, Benz Circle flyover, development of roads, beautification of canal bunds and important junctions are in the list of priority projects. The government has also plans to distribute pattas to hill area people and provide houses to canal bund residents.
All the works are in midway and the speeding up of work is needed to complete the projects before the next elections. Apart from this, the government wants to take up tourism projects in the Krishna river course area near Amaravati capital city location.
Especially, the government wants to showcase the two flyovers in the city to the people to claim its capability. But the completion of Durga temple flyover turned out to be difficult due to various reasons. The state government released Rs 500 crore from its account for completion of the project though it is the Centre-sponsored project.
The citizens are also discussing over the delay of the project. In this backdrop, the government is keen to complete the whole project or at least to allow vehicles by finishing underground lane of flyover at Durga temple stretch if the delay continues.
On the other hand, the construction of Benz Circle is progressing at a brisk pace. The project would be completed by October, said MP Kesineni Srinivas. He said that the project would be completed before the elections.
Similarly, the state government started city beautification project. Several works are in midway. Already, the canal bunds are being developed with greenery. The walking tracks and entertainment zones are being created on canal bunds. The local body also made plans to introduce boating in the city canals.
Moreover, all the junction points in the city are being developed with attractions, including lighting, greenery, along with fountains. The biggest entertainment greenery zone is being constructed at Varadhi near Krishnalanka. It is the city's entry point from Guntur and the beautification works would attract people, said Surat Balakrishna, a native of Krishnalanka.
Apart from this, the government wants to distribute pattas to 50,000 hill area families. They started living on hills several decades ago by constructing permanent structures illegally. Now the government has plans to give pattas by regularising those structures and the residents would get full rights which enable them to get loans from banks, said former corporator Bobba Srinivasa Rao.
He said that the government would get support if the ongoing projects are completed before the next elections. He also asked the government to complete some other internal roads as per the plans without delay.
