Vijayawada: Upparapalli Venkata Subbalakshmi, a third year engineering student, committed suicide at her residence at Gannavaram on Thursday evening. She poured kerosene and set herself ablaze when no one was at home.
Tirupati Reddy, father of the victim said that for the past few years she was suffering from psychological problem and was undergoing treatment.
Assistant Commissioner of Police East Zone Vijaya Bhaskar and Gannavaram Inspector K Sridhar Kumar visited the spot.
According to the police officers, the victim returned home from the college in the evening located at BC Kalyanamandapam Road.
Local people noticed her attempt suicide and tried to save her. She breathed her last before she was rescued.
The inspector said that the girl was mentally ill and also attempted suicide when she was studying Intermediate.
A suicide case was registered and started further investigation.
