Vijayawada: Pingali Venkayya, freedom fighter and designer of national tricolour flag, was remembered on the eve of his birth anniversary at a programme at Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati, said cultural centre CEO Dr E Sivanagi Reddy.

Krishna District Writer’s Association secretary Dr GV Poorna Chand, who was the chief guest at birth anniversary fete, said that Venkayya, hailed from Krishna district. He said that he was born on August 2 at Bhatlapenumarru village in Divi taluk. He was more inclined towards agriculture and had brought a new variety of cotton seeds with high yield.

Potluri Harikrishna of Telugu Rakshana Vedika, Golla Narayana Rao, secretary, Andhra Arts Academy, Sunkara Nagabhushanam, Chimpiraiah of Malaxmi Group and students of Aravinda High School, Kunchanapalli participated in the programme.
