Vijayawada: District Collector B Lakshmikantham said that women were excelling in various fields on par with men.

The collector participated as the chief guest at the launch programme of Street Vendors in Business Development Skills Project to enabling people to create sustainable livelihood organised by Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM) with the support of Axis Bank Foundation on the VMM premises on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering, the collector said that when women are financially strong they would support the family in all aspects for the overall development of the family.

He appreciated the members of VMM and Axis bank foundation for taking the initiative in supporting the women in launching this project.

VMM president Chennupati Vidya said that pushcarts, grinders worth Rs 14 lakhs were distributed to women for creating self employment with the financial support of the Axis Bank Foundation.

She said that women should support the family financially through self employment. She said about 92 women were given pushcarts and grinders on the occasion.

The Axis Bank Foundation circle head Rama Krishna said that the foundation has supported about 10 lakh people across the country and 149 people at Vijayawada to create self employment.

The collector distributed cheques to the beneficiaries on the occasion.

Members of VMM and Axis Bank Foundation and others were present.
