Kurnool: Challa Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation, officially launched distribution of jowar through fair shops to ration card holders in Banaganapalle on Wednesday.

Joint Collector V Prasanna Venkatesh, Nandyal Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Rama Sunder Reddy and other officials also participated in the launch programme. Speaking on the occasion, Ramakrishna Reddy said food cooked out of jowar is largely consumed in Kurnool and Kadapa districts.

He stated over 11,71,738 ration card holders in Kurnool district are eligible for receiving jowar. Two kilos of jowar at a cost of Rs 1 per kg would be distributed to each card holder, he said. The Corporation chief gave a call to beneficiaries to make use of the government initiative.

He further said a card holder availing jowar would face cut in rice quota. Giving top priority to people’s welfare, the TD government had introduced several schemes, stated Ramakrishna Reddy. Tahsildars of Koilakuntla, Sanjamala, Dornipadu and Uyyalawada mandals and ration dealers and others were present.
