Visakhapatnam: Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL) on Wednesday started sewing training programme for the women. As a part of the programme, 50 women have been selected from Sri Nagar Rehabilitation Colony, who will be undergoing 45 days training at Skill Development Centre, Vadlapudi. Apart from organising the classes, GPL will also provide free transportation facility for the convenience of the women who will be attending the training.

The sewing training programme by Gangavaram port has received good response from the women in the neighbouring villages as it has provided them with an opportunity to supplement the family income. The GPL has provided sewing training to 309 women in six batches from rehabilitated villages and distributed sewing machines to them.

The GPL aims to uplift and give equal status to the women of the surrounding areas through women empowerment activities. The main aim of this programme is to enhance the quality of life of women through increased knowledge and skills. The GPL would continue the activities as it benefits the women in the vicinity of the port, said Vice-President (Vigilance and Security) of GPL B Balakrishna. Vice-presidents LPS Ramu Naidu and M Gopal Rao were present.
