Rajamahendravaram: Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sumit Kumar has said that his aim is to make the cultural capital of the state as a plastic-free city and appealed to the people, students, non-governmental organizations, Chamber of Commerce and others to extend their cooperation in this regard.

He flagged off a rally against plastic organised jointly by the students of Aditya Degree College and Mahila College at Syamala Centre here on Tuesday.

He said everyone in the city should avoid plastic usage which was posing many problems. The rampant plastic usage was hampering the flow of drain water along with other issues.

Plastic ban will come into force from August 15 and the corporation will implement it strictly, he said.

The students should bring awareness among the people against plastic usage and conduct rallies and awareness meetings in the city.

Along with Vanam Manam programmes, programmes against plastic should also be organized which is the need of the hour, he said.

The students should play pivotal role in this task, he added. The rally started at Syamala Theatre centre and ended at Pushkar Ghat passing through main road. The students participated in the rally wearing plastic material.

Aditya colleges director SP Gangi Reddy, principals KC Sagar, Phani Kumar, corporation health officer Dr MVR Murthi, school supervisor Durga Prasad and others were present.
