Visakhapatnam: Deputy Chief Minister and District In-charge Minister N Chinarajappa said that 1.45 lakh acres would be brought into cultivation with the Godavari waters from Polavaram left main canal.

Chinarajappa hoisted the National Flag and received the guard of honour from the armed forces at the 72nd Independence Day celebrations at the Police Stadium here on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister disclosed the development activities and welfare schemes being implemented by the government in the district. Though the government was facing financial crisis, the government has been giving top priority for all-round development of the district, he added.

Speaking about the tourism development, Chinarajappa said that the most attractive tourism spot Araku would be developed at an estimated cost of Rs.156 crore and already the Detailed Project Report was prepared, he said.

The government already sanctioned permission to develop beach resorts, international standard hotels and boating clubs across the beach. Specially mentioning about the Anna Canteens, he said that with an aim to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner to the poor, the government established the Anna Canteens which is a unique programme of the TDP government, he said.

On the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister presented meritorious certificates to the officials and employees for their excellence in delivering duties. Later, he also distributed assets related to the DRDA, BC, SC Corporation and Agriculture departments. Collector Pravin Kumar, SP Rahul Dev Sharma, senior officials, elected representatives were present.
