Rajamahendravaram: The 72nd Independence Day celebrations were held in the city and the Tricolour was unfurled in all government and private offices, business establishments, educational institutions, remembering the sacrifices made by great personalities to get independence to the country.

Unfurling the national flag in municipal corporation office, Mayor Pantham Rajani Sesha Sai said, “We are all enjoying the fruits of independence which was possible with sacrifices of many freedom-fighters.

It is the duty of everyone to protect the independence and work for national integrity. Every one should respect national flag and national anthem.”

Parents and teachers should tell children about the greatness of our national flag and national anthem. “We should not forget the sacrifices made by the great personalities to get independence,” she added.

Deputy mayor Vasireddy Rambabu, commissioner Sumit Kumar, additional commissioner NVV Satyanarayana Rao, deputy commissioner T Raja Gopal Rao,

superintending engineer Om Prakash, health officer Dr MVR Murhthi and corporators were present. City MLA Dr Akula Satyanarayana, hoisting the national flag in his office underlined the need to move together for national integrity and inculcate the habit of respecting national flag.

Because of the selfless service of many great people, we got independence, he added. Sub-collector CM Saikanth Varma said every employee should work with committment and discipline for the development of the country.

District Judge N Tukaramji, Adikavi Nannaya University vice-chancellor Prof Murru Mutyala Naidu, Aryapuram Cooperative Urban Bank chairman Challa Shankar Rao also unfurled the national flag in their offices.
