Vijayawada: The Independence Day was celebrated with gaiety at various offices of government and political parties here on Wednesday. The district administration, including police and revenue officials, took part in the celebrations.
Minister for Women and Child Welfare Paritala Sunitha hoisted the national flag in Machilipatnam. District Collector Lakshmikantham, Minister Kollu Ravindra, MP Konakalla Narayana and several officials were present.
Principal Secretary Girija Shankar hoisted the flag at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Vijayawada. He said that the state stood at first place in various disciplines by overtaking several hardships after the bifurcation.
The city police also celebrated the Independence Day at Police Parade Grounds. Commissioner of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao participated in the celebrations and received the guard of honour. The police personnel conducted the parade and several higher officials were also present.
Transco chief managing director Vijayanand and staff celebrated the Independence Day celebrations at Vidyuth Soudha office here. They took oath to serve the people in a better manner. MLA Jaleel Khan distributed sweets and recalled the services of nation leaders.
He hoisted the flag at One Town. The railway officials and staff celebrated the Independence Day at the railway stadium. The Railway Protection Force conducted the parade. Several officials were also present. Mayor Koneru Sridhar and Commissioner J Nivas took part in the celebrations at the municipal corporation office.
