Vijayawada: A rare kidney transplantation was performed successfully on two young patients suffering from Alport Syndrome, which is a genetic condition characterised by kidney disease.

People suffering from Alport syndrome would experience progressive loss of kidney function, said Vijaya Super Specialty Hospital Nephrologist Sarath Babu here on Thursday.

Speaking to ‘The Hans India’, Dr Sarath said that the rare genetic kidney disease is seen one in fifty thousand population.

The symptom of the kidney disease is that the patients have blood in their urine, which indicates abnormal functioning of kidneys.

He said that kidney transplantation was performed successfully on two students studying B Tech G Harsha and J Phani Kumar.
