Nellore: It will not be an easy task for former minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy to win from Venkatagiri Assembly constituency. Being asenior politician he had developed good contacts in the district by virtue of legacy of his family and also with personal rapport serving as minister handling important portfolios such as Roads and Buildings, and Finance and planning.

In the past, Anam family had played key role in the Congress party for many decades in the district and Ramanarayana Reddy joined the ruling Telugu Desam on Jan 17, 2016 along with his brother Vivekananda Reddy and the latter is no more now. Because of his huge contacts in Atmakur constituency, Ramanarayana was made TDP in-charge for the constituency then.

But, he couldn’t adjust with the local leaders and with the internal system of Telugu Desamand was facing identity crisis. He had again decided to shift loyalties to the opposition. Before joining YSRCP, he was having dilemma. Finally,Ramanarayana joined the YSR Congress recently.

Subsequently, he was made YSRCP in-chargefor Venkatagiri constituency. However, ZP Chairman and party ticket aspirant for Venkatagiri segment B Raghavendra Reddy quit the YSRCP expressing his dissent over the decision.

In fact, Ramanarayana is having strong hold in Atmakur and Nellore constituencies. But, the YSR Congress preferred him to be at Venkatagirias it aimed to give tough fight to the ruling party candidate K Ramakrishna.

The YSR Congress is having hold in the district with six legislators besides the MP seat. Ruling TDP has four seats and the YSRCP is planning to field strong candidates against ruling party contestants.

Sitting MLA K Ramakrishna from Venkatagiri has been winning hearts of the people for the last two elections since 2009. The party also won 1994, 1999 elections and only during 2004, Rajyalakshmi, wife of former Chief Minister Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy, won from Venkatagiri on Congress ticket. Now, it would be a tough situation for Ramanarayana to handle the polls in the coming elections where his party has set backs.

“Ramanarayana can manage either Atmakur or Nellore constituencies, but it would be an uphill task for him to win the hearts of Venkatagiri voters. He has to show his might in the elections for his existence, otherwise dissident leaders would take an opportunity to point fingers at him,” said a senior leader from the YSR Congress.

YSR congress party is also facing internal bickering in Kavali, Atmakur, and other constituencies. Coming election would be an acid test for Ramanarayana to prove his capabilities and experience, analysts say.
