Tirupati: About 15,000 were applied for enrollment as voters in Tirupati Assembly segment where the revision of voters list is in full swing since September 1 and would come to an end on October 31. This include 4,900, who applied online and the remaining through Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Village Revenue Officers (VROs) and at Urban Tahsildar office here.
Revenue officials including Tahsildar and Deputy Tahsildar leading a special campaign for enrollment of voters at all colleges in the city providing the opportunity to the youth, who will attain the age of 18 as on January 1, 2019 for spot enrollment as voters while the VROs
taken up door-to-door campaign as part of the summary revision boosting up the enrollment of new voters.
“The specialty of the summary revision of electoral roll this year is a massive intense publicity campaign to see that all the eligible youth are enrolled as voters. The publicity campaign includes awareness meeting, slides in cinema halls, publicity through local channels on daily basis and also 60 flexis put up in all junctions and important places in the city,” said Tirupati Urban Tahsildar A Chandramohan.
Speaking to The Hans India, Chandramohan said that Anganwadi workers, municipal corporation employees and SHG leaders, who are acting as BLOs are stationed at the 261 polling stations in the Tirupati Assembly segment on every Sunday since the summary revision of electoral roll began on September 1 for enrollment of new voters (Form 6), taking up corrections including name (Form 8), change of address (Form 8A) and deletions (Form 7), apart from VROs going on door-to-campaign for revision of voters list including enrolling new voters at the door steps of the denizens.
A team of officials comprising senior personnel from various departments including revenue and civil supplies acting as supervisors overseeing the BLOs functioning in enroling voters in the 261 polling centres in the Assembly segment, he explained. On the difficulties, some people are unable to find out their names in the electoral rolls.
Chandramohan said that verification of voters can also be done through BLOs, with the help desk set up in Urban Tahsildar office and also online in the Election Commission of India website, giving the details like voter identity card, Assembly segment etc. He said special campaign will be intensified in the last two days to see maximum number of voters are enrolled.
