Vijayawada: Several hundred devotees took up the 41 day Bhavani Deeksha at Durga temple on the first day of the three day event on Monday. The temple administration has made arrangements for the beginning of the Deekshas this season.

Temple Executive officer V Koteswaramma, temple priests and officials performed Puja at the sixth floor of the Maha Mandapam to mark the beginning of Bhavani Deeksha, the annual event. Devotees wore the traditional red dress and will continue in the red dress for 41 days as part of the Deeksha.

The relinquishment programme will be held again at Durga temple after 41 days. Devotees chanted the slogan ‘Jai Bhavani’, Jai Bhavani to mark the beginning of the Deekshas at Durga temple. Before that they had taken bath in Krishna river.
