Vijayawada: The APSRTC recognised union, the Employees Union decided to stage protests in front of the 128 depots and four workshops in the State on December 11 and 12 if the RTC management fails to withdraw its decision to downsize the staff.

In a press release issuedhere on Saturday, the Employees Union general secretary P Damodara Rao said that the RTC management is taking unilateral decisions on downsizing the staff. He demanded that the management should withdraw the decision. He said the Union would give notice to the management on December 10 and stage protests for two days on December 11 and 12.

The Union leader said that the management had already issued a circular to reduce the staff in civil engineering departments and it has also been taking steps to reduce the security staff. He said the RTC is also contemplating to downsize the staff in traffic and garage departments and clerical staff. The RTC is also taking measures to give the job of maintenance of booking counters to outsourcing agencies.

He alleged that the RTC management is delaying the pay revision of the staff in spite of meeting held with the Employees Union four times. He said the next round of talks on pay revision would be held on December 20. He announced that the Employees Union would take decision on future course of action to be followed after the talks.
