Kurnool: P Ankamma Chowdary, Chairman of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP), said on Saturday the State government is giving big boost to the sports by developing infrastructure and organising national and international sports events. 

Addressing members of the sports association and Physical Education Teachers (PETs) at outdoor stadium here, the SAAP chief said that he is visiting Kurnool for the first time after taking charge as SAAP Chairman. 

Training centres have been set up across the State and camps are likely to be organised for 30 sports, he mentioned. Ankamma stated that the SAAP is planning to start sports hostel in every district to accommodate 200 sports persons. 

“Proposals were sent to the government for direct recruitment of athletes, who have won medals at junior, varsity and national-level competitions, in Police, Forest and Education departments. DSA CEO Sudhakar Reddy, Olympic Association member Bollavaram Anjaneyulu and others participated in the programme.
