Eluru: Telugu language has been given top priority in Mauritius, said Dr Sanjiva Narasimha Appadu, head of Telugu department in Mahatma Gandhi Institute in the Republic of Mauritius.
He was addressing the gathering on ‘Literature-Social Reform’ in the meeting organised in connection with the 100th death anniversary of noted reformer Kandukuri Veeresalingam at CRR Degree College here.
Dr Sanjiva Appadu said that though he was born in Mauritius out of love and affection towards Telugu language since his ancestors were Telugu people, he learnt the language with the help of Pedda Bala Siksha.
He said that so far he had visited India 50 times and he wished to visit it for 10,000 times. The Telugu Language Day is observed with pomp and gaiety in Mauritius every year, he recalled.
Students after completing 12th class come to India for higher studies, he said.
Dr Appadu said that he brought out a book with 30 kirtanas of Annamacharya.
T Ganesh, scientist from Heidelberg University in Germany said that though people studied in Telugu they could get placements in IT sector. He exhorted students to come out of the mindset of traditional education.
Hindi scholar from Korea Kimko Jong, Rishab Dev Sharma, Prof Sankar Rao, Prof Narayana Raju, Dr D Nageswara Rao, Dr K Krishna, Dr K Sailaja, Dr Leena Chandra, and others also spoke.
