Nellore: The Vice-President of India M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the Frequency Modulation (FM) station here on Thursday constructed at a cost of Rs 9.3 crore. He congratulated Director General of the All India Radio for early completion of the prestigious project.
The FM station, in fact, was proposed a decade ago at BV Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-President said that he is happy that the people of Nellore will have access to AIR’s programmes in the local language. He stated he had laid foundation two years ago when he was Union Minister and it has become reality for enjoyment of the local residents.
These FM stations would tap local talent, he added. Venkaiah further said radio broadcasting in the world has made a comeback in the era of continuous bombardment of visual content through myriad channels adding that the human eye is enduring weariness. In such scenario, radio would give respite from such tiredness, he explained.
He mentioned radio gives clean, soft and assuaging entertainment along with hard news. He exhorted mother tongue has to be taught up to 8th standard for enhancing love and affection on the language and the administration activities should also be taken up in the same language. MPs are allowed to speak in 22 languages in the Parliament, he said.
Sasi S Vempati, CEO of Prasara Bharathi, All India Radio Director General-Administration F Sheheryar, Prasara Bharathi Engineer-in-Chief CBS Maurya, RS member V Prabhakar Reddy, Minister P Narayana, ZP Chairman B Raghavendra Reddy, Mayor Abdul Aziz, Collector Mutyala Raju and others were present.
