Vijayawada: The Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati (CCVA), in association with Andhra Arts Academy organised International Mother Language Day celebrations on Thursday.

Dr Palaparthi Symalanada Prasad, a famous Telugu Avadhani, the chief guest of the programme, speaking on the occasion, said that no other language than the mother tongue
is great as far as learning, writing, understanding and speaking is concerned.

He stressed on the need of protecting and preserving Telugu as mother language in spite of the fact that “we learn many other foreign languages for livelihood.”

Dr E Sivanagi Reddy, historian and expert in palaeography made a presentation on the origin and development of Telugu language and script based on Prakrit and Telugu inscriptions.

Golla Narayana Rao, secretary, Andhra Arts Academy said that it is the responsibility of the parents that their children are taught in Telugu language up to elementary school level.

Harmohinder Singh Sahni of Sri Guru Sikh Sabha, Abdul Azeem, Valiveti Sivarama Krishna Murthy and Chimpirayya of Malaxmi Group participated in the programme.
