Kadapa: Political scenario becomes interesting with the senior Congress leader and former minister Dr. Duggireddy Lakshmi Ravindra Reddy decided to contest as an independent candidate from Mydukuru Assembly segment in the ensuing elections.

Popularly known as DL has taken such step as both TDP and YSRCP denied Mydukuru ticket to him due to local politics. Native of K.Sunkesula village of Mydukuru mandal, Ravindra Reddy started his political career as an independent MLA from Mydukuru Assembly segment in 1978.

About 5 months ago, several YSR Congress leaders like Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, YS Vivekananda Reddy and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy met DL and asked him to join YSRCP, But the negotiations failed as Jaganmohan Reddy ignored his request to contest from Mydukuru as the segment was already confirmed to sitting MLA Settipalli Raghu Rami Reddy.

It is learnt that Ravindra Reddy also met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on February 7 and sought TDP ticket from the constituency. He was disappointed as it was already confirmed to TTD chairman Putta Sudhakar Yadav. Now, DL decides to contest as an independent candidate.

As a contemporary to YS Rajasekhar Reddy in politics and having close association with YSR family, he had joined Indian National Congress (INC) and continuously won from the constituency in 1983, 1989, 1994,2004, and 2009 elections.
