Hyderabad: Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), a part of global auto giant Suzuki Motor Corporation, is looking to increase its share in Indian two-wheeler market to 5 per cent from the current 3 per cent. The company rolled out Suzuki Gixxer, its flagship 155cc bike, here on Wednesday.

“At present, SMIPL has a market share of 11 per cent in scooter segment and 1 per cent in motorcycle category.
That translates into an overall market share of 3 per cent. As we have lined up a slew of new models and undertake continuous expansion of our distribution network, we expect our market share to go up to five per cent in near term,” Atul Gupta, Executive Vice President, SMIPL, told media here after launching the Gixxer Street Sport bike.

Currently, SMIPL has a network of 630 outlets spread across the country and it intends to increase the number to 1,000 touch points by end of the current fiscal year. Last fiscal, the company sold 4 lakh units and the sales target for this fiscal is 5 lakh units.

On the Gixxer bike, he said it would come loaded with exciting equipment, power, handling and trusted Suzuki quality. “It is an overall mix of elegant styling, classy on-road presence and promising performance. We expect Gixxer to create a strong foothold for itself," he added.
