Test mules of Safari Storme bearing VARICOR400 badge have been spotted recently and it was expected that the new Safari Storme facelift will get an increment in torque. However, leaked brochures reveal that it is not the case. The facelifted Storme continues with its 320Nm of torque and a 10PS increment in power (150PS now) from the same 2.2 liter diesel mill which is mated to the 5-speed gearbox. So, what was Tata testing with the VARICOR400 badge?

In a new update, a Safari Storme test mule has been snapped by Aniruddha Joshi (at The Safari User Group on Facebook) on test with a clear ‘Storme Automatic’ badge at the rear windshield confirming that Tata is indeed working on an autobox for the Storme.

It is expected that this Storme facelift and Hexa will get a 6-speed automatic gearbox and apparently, the VARICOR400 badged test mules may have been the automatic versions on test. Though not a confirmation but since this is the EX variant on test, Tata may launch the automatic Storme in lower versions as well.
