Production is expected to resume after a brief sabbatical.Rushlane has learnt that Fiat India has suspended the production of the Abarth Punto and Avventura performance variants for a brief period as the Ranjangaon factory is being prepared to accommodate the upcoming Jeep C-SUV. The Liberty and Compass replacement is currently taking shape in Brazil and is expected to make its world premiere at Sao Paulo Motor Show towards the end of this year.

FCA’s Indian plant will be one of the two primary production locations for the Jeep C-SUV (the other being a Brazilian plant) and the automaker has earmarked a significant investment to expand the facility. The expansion work has already started, so we can expect the new premium mid-size SUV to roll out of Ranjangaon sometime in the second half of 2017 or early 2018.

Since the Abarth Punto and Avventura variants are niche products that are destined to sell in very limited numbers every month, we expect Fiat India to have enough inventory to successfully go through the temporary suspension. Worst case scenario, the Abarth customers would have to wait slightly longer than usual for the delivery of their vehicles.

Both performance models are tailor-made for India and feature a pumped up version of the 1.4-litre TJet turbocharged petrol engine which puts out 145 PS.
