The latest generation of the Elantra moves on from the fluidic design to a more sophisticated theme which is characterized by the edgy hexagonal grille.

Sharp headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights and boomerang shaped foglight enclosures round off the front end design. A sleek profile with a smoothly arcing roofline and sculpted rear with wraparound taillights are the other design highlights.

Compared to the outgoing version, the sedan longer by 20 mm, wider by 25 mm and taller by 5 mm. The interior design derives inspiration from more upmarket international Hyundais. The car comes equipped with an array of safety assistance systems.

Powertrain details for the India will be in the form of a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which is rated at 152 hp and 190 Nm, while a 1.6-litre diesel engine is also on offer, delivering 128 hp and 265 Nm torque. This is the same engine which is on offer with top-end Verna and Creta. Both 6 speed manual and automatic transmissions will be on offer.

A total of five trims will be on offer – S, SX, SX AT, SX(O), SX(O) AT. Some of the features of top end variant includes LED taillights, 16 inch alloys wrapped with 205/60 section tyres, 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, dual zone climate control, etc. Safety features on offer includes, driver and passenger front airbag as standard. The top end variant also gets side and curtain airbags.

The new Hyundai Elantra will be pickup up a fight with the like of Toyota Corolla, Skoda Octavia, VW Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze and Renault Fluence in India. Expect price to start in the range of INR 14 lakh.
