The new Brio is expected to make its world debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2018, which will be held between 2-12 August 2018. Honda’s Indonesian arm has recently announced that it will make a ‘World Premiere’ at this year’s GIIAS. In all probability, it will be the second-gen Brio as its concept too was globally revealed in April at the Indonesia International Motor Show.
The upcoming Brio should be underpinned by Honda’s new platform that debuted with the second-gen Amaze, which made its global premiere at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo in February. Like the second-gen Amaze, we expect the new Brio to be wider than before. In the Amaze, Honda has managed to liberate more room on the inside by increasing the wheelbase, and the new Brio should also be more spacious than before.
Space, both inside the cabin and in the boot, was never the Brio’s strongest point. In images, the second-gen Brio’s concept, knows as Small RS Concept, appears to be larger than the first-gen hatchback. So we expect Honda to have made it more spacious than before. The concept also gets a conventional boot-lid design, doing away with the all-glass boot-lid that we see on the first-gen Brio in India.
The second-gen Brio’s equipment list and cabin is likely to be similar to the recently launched Honda Amaze. Expect it to offer features such a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto climate control, and more. The cabin will also feature better-bolstered seats compared to the previous model.
The Brio is likely to be a petrol-only offering as before. Expect it to be powered by the existing 1.2-litre petrol engine, albeit in the 90PS guise, same as the new Amaze (90PS/110Nm). A CVT auto is expected to replace the Brio’s old school 5-speed torque converter automatic. It might also get paddle shifters like the new Amaze.
