Tirupati: YSRCP honorary president Y Vijayalakshmi has termed the decision of CWC and UPA to bifurcate the State as “unfortunate”. The decision had split Telugu-speaking people and widened psychological gap, resulting in confrontations between the employees of the two regions in Vidyuth Soudha, Jala Sowdha and at the secretariat, she said while addressing the ‘Samaikya Sankharavam’ here on Monday evening.
Vijayalakshmi pointed out that though the agitation in the entire Seemandhra region had been continuing for the last one month, the Union government and the Congress high command had not rolled back the decision. Cordial relations among Telugu-speaking people were strained, she mentioned. All educational institutions were closed down in the entire region and business was affected. A lot of common people were facing difficulties and all of this was due the hasty decision of CWC, she stressed.
She alleged that the Congress high command had taken the decision in favour of Telangana purely for votes and seats. The TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu gave a letter in favour of Telangana and went into poll alliance with BJP, which had a policy of ‘one vote, two states’. The letter made it easy for the Congress to grant statehood to Telangana, she said.
The development of the state and welfare of the common people had been affected due to the sudden demise of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. If he (YSR) were alive, the present situation would not have arisen, she said. YSRCP had always been with the people and it was the first party to oppose a division of State and its all legislators had tendered their resignation, she said. The repeated statements of AICC leader Digvijay Singh over the process of Telangana state formation were unfortunate and the Congress did not take the recommendations of Justice Sri Krishna Committee into consideration, she pointed out. Opposing this stance, she and YS Jagan had launched indefinite fast and her daughter Sharmila was going to the people through ‘Samaikya Sankharavam’, she said.
