A circus joker is looting a Chicago bank time and again to revenge his father’s death. Will the Indian super cops be able to catch this mystery thief?

Chup Chap Charlie is a mastermind. Unquestionably! But O Good Lord, what precisely is Aamir doing among a horde of retards? Nothing much, but playing the KING FOOLISH riding on a trademark Dhoom franchisee motor bike in Chicago, which is thirsty for more fuel. The 172 minute long-drawn-out film TESTS the endurance of the audience to the core if not to the bore.

Story

The screenplay written by the director Vijay Krishna Acharya is about a circus boy Sahir (Aamir Khan) whose father (Jackie Shroff) commits suicide after losing his money to a Chicago bank.

Sahir then plans to rob the bank and carries on a series of robberies. Once the renowned super cops from India reach the city to solve the mystery interesting escapades tag along.

Analysis

Puffed up as the biggest Indian action thriller of the year, Dhoom 3 is indisputably on the expected lines, but lacks the requisite insightfulness in script. The wannabe slickest action thriller is protracted, melodramatic someplace and slackened at times. It may also ring a bell about ‘The Prestige’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ but the Indian version is surely not a plagiarized one despite Pritam being involved in one of the CREATIVE departments. The plot is so jaded that you are immobilized to make out the raison d'être why Chicago bank is being looted and what accurately induces Jackie Shroff to shoot off his skull.

The thief leaves his mark - a smiling joker faced portrait on the wall and a few lines in Hindi saying ‘bank walon tumhare aisi ki taisi’ after robbing the bank every time. What makes the Indian super cop Abhishek Bachchan to trust the circus guy so easily at start? The questions are in huge scores and answers - ??? Anyways move ahead, but don’t dare ask what exactly are Uday and Abhishek doing when Aamir is playing joker here – Big Ouchhh!

The nauseating duo of Ali (Uday Chopra) and Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan), a pair of ageing actors with pot-belies, repeats itself the third time, without adding anything spanking new. While Ali atleast manages to chip in with hilarity at some points (courtesy big bro Aditya Chopra) especially when dealing with blonde policewoman Victoria, Jai is more contented driving auto rickshaw wearing tightly fitted black leather jacket and a pair of blue jeans. He appears the same serious and stiff super cop avatar as was he 9 years back in the first edition of the franchise. It’s the right time for UNCLE Abhishek to call quits. He tastes flat, soda without fizz!

And, what’s ‘super-copish’ about him in the first place? If flaunting double chin and delivering dialogues with dead pan looks qualifies to be such, Tusshar Kapoor is custom made for the job. The biggest bombshell - Chicago bankers and state police trusts these guys with a job, which can’t be accomplished by them even in the wildest of their dreams.

Secondly, Ali who was a roadside mawali in the previous versions graduates on to become a cop this time. At least he says such. Alas, his colorful bandana still doesn’t manage to cover up his forehead (whose geography is as endless as the length of the flick) entirely. Poor Guy! Anyways, it’s his last movie. Yipppeee!

Then there comes Chikni Chameli Aaliya (Katrina Kaif) with as trivial a role as Hindi language plays in her personal life. The ‘hot Asian girl’ doesn’t have much to do but to perform striptease to ‘Kamli’ tunes showing off her toned midriff, and pitching in with a few idiotic giggles. There were talks about her taking up paragliding, singing, ballet and aerobics lessons, but for what? Maybe kissing circus man Aamir on the lips requires her to be trained in these arts. Gimme a break moron!

Dhoom 3, the first Bollywood movie to be released in IMAX format lacks solid script. Even Aamir Khan, lacks that emblematic sly impious look in his eyes but still it’s for his sparkling performance you must watch the movie. The method actor’s new SECRET, only those who have seen the movie can relate what ‘raaz’ I am talking about, is worth witnessing once.

The other protagonist that stands out is the fantastically executed action/stunt work, which is in the same league as those in Hollywood. Watch it for Aamir, but splurging Rs 900 (IMAX screen) a ticket appears a tad heavy on wallet especially when the PACKAGE proffers burnt out crackers - Uday and Abhishek!

#Rating - 3 stars on the scale of 5
