Ajita Suchitraveera’s directorial feature film ‘Ballad of Rustom’ has been shortlisted for Oscar Best Picture 2014. Her film was shortlisted from among 3,000 entries worldwide and competing with Hollywood films like ‘Gravity’.

She has also received acclaim for her short film ‘Notes On Her’ which was also an Oscar Entry in 2003 and also showcased widely in film festival across the world. She studied science, theatre, photography and cinema.

An illustrator, a trained photographer and actor, she was training to be a scientist, when she decided to give up science to pursue her ultimate passion for cinema, at the prestigious FTII Pune as a film director. Her great passion for cinema and filmmaking, led her to found her own film company Imaginem Cinema to make imaginative and original cinema in India in 2009.

‘Ballad of Rustom’ which she has written, produced and directed is about imagination, dreams, of the passion for life, love, hope, despair,& conflicting philosophies of a few people in a countryside township in India.
