Speaking at the teaser launch of ‘Govindudu Andarivadele’ (GA) in Hyderabad on Thursday, the film’s director Krishna Vamsi turned emotional remembering his association with Chiranjeevi. Stating that most people are unaware of his equation with the actor-turned-politician, he said, “When I was shooting an ad with him early last decade, he drove to the sets in a Land Cruiser worth Rs 75 lakh. I asked him, ‘Annaya, give me the car.’ Immediately after 15 days I get a call to meet him. When I met him at his house, he gave the SUV keys and asked me to keep it as his gift. I said, ‘Annaya I don’t accept gifts’. But he said, ‘Now that you’ve addressed me as Annaya, you should take the car’,” said Vamsi in a choked voice. “I was to do a film with him, but I don’t know whether it’s my bad luck or the audiences’, the film didn’t materialise.”

Talking about ‘GA’s lead star Ram Charan, he said the actor has a great respect for elders. “I thought my career was almost over when I decided to fight once again. I gave a call to Charan’s associate Praveen thinking that I would get an appointment a month later. But Charan asked me to drop by the same day. And when I went to meet him, he offered his chair. He loved the plot, but insisted that I narrate it to Chiranjeevi garu. And when I met Annaya, he immediately said that Ram Charan would do the film and it was later that he asked me to narrate the plot. I can never forget this gesture of his.”
