“Ihave never asked God for anything. Butthere was one wish I did ask for – to give me one hit film. And there’s a reason why I asked it? I remember my fans obstructing my vehicle as I was leaving the audio launch of ‘Ishq’ a fewyears ago? I could locate from their gestures and emotions that they’ve desperately wanted me to a deliver a hit.
Similar thing happened when I was on the sets of ‘Gabbar Singh’, as a fan from Mahabubnagar, withstanding the security, rushed to me and asked me to deliver a blockbuster. He even went to the extent of saying that he will narrate a script to me,”said superstar Pawan Kalyan.
He was speaking at the audio launch of ‘Gopala Gopala’on Sunday in Hyderabad. He is playing a keyrole in the film. “The way they asked me made me emotional and before ‘Gabbar Singh’ opened in cinemas, I prayed to God that I should score a hit – Not for myself but for my fans.”
As his fans kept cheering, he added, “When I was watching the premier of ‘Khushi’, there was this nagging feeling inside me that something will not be right. I felt that I am going to see a period of failure in the future. It was like a voice inside me telling me that tough times are ahead. I wasn’t sure if I should trust that inner voice or not.
But then I remembered how God brought me into this world of cinema as I was going to leave everything and run away from home to Srisailam Forests. I knew that the times ahead weren’t going to be good. But despite that, I stayed put because of one reason – you, my fans. You were there with me despite all the highs and lows that I’ve seen.
Not a single day did you leave me. I am grateful.” Speaking about his association with Venkatesh, who plays the lead role in the film, Pawan Kalyan said, “I knew him even before I turned an actor.
I used to drop by his house to borrow laser discs of films. He is like a brother to me. I meet very few people from the industry and on a personal level I think he is one of the few I meet. We rarely discuss films and have more spiritual talks. And now I wonder if those spiritual talks area reason, for we have worked together in film like ‘Gopala Gopala’.”
Venky, who kept his speech very short, said, “I think the best moment about ‘Gopala Gopala’ was when Pawan Kalyan accepted the role of Lord Sri Krishna. I was very happy that he said yes.”
The film, a joint venture between Suresh Babu and Sharrath Marar (Pawan’s manager/friend), is expected to hit the cinemas this week. Kishore Pardasani of ‘Tadakha’fame is the director.
